CHESS at the Innovation Convention 2014

InnovatonConvention14 posterThe CHESS project has been selected for demonstration at the European Commission's prestigious Innovation Convention, which will will take place on 10 and 11 March 2014 in Brussels. Over 2000 participants are expected to attend this second edition of the Innovation Convention. A CHESS storytelling experience will be specially designed for participants of the Convention.

CHESS presentation at NODEM 2013

Dr. Stefan Rennick-Egglestone of the University of Nottingham presented the paper "Indoors and outdoors: designing mobile experiences for Cité de l’Espace" at the NODEM (Network of Design and Digital Heritage) 2013 Conference: Beyond Control – The Collaborative Museum and its Challenges, which took place in Sweden on December 2nd, 2013. Keynote speech at Mobile Learning 2014

Prof. Steve Benford of the University of Nottingham will be the keynote speaker at the 10th International Conference on Mobile Learning 2014, which will take place in Madrid, Spain from 28 February to 2 March 2014.

Mobile learning is concerned with a society on the move. In particular, with the study of “…how the mobility of learners augmented by personal and public technology can contribute to the process of gaining new knowledge, skills and experience” (Sharples et al. 2007).

CHESS at ICT 2013 exhibition

131106 CHESS ICT2013 071 smThe CHESS Project is being demonstrated at the ICT 2013 event in Vilnius, Lithuania, on 6-8 November 2013. More than 5000 researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs, industry representatives, young people and politicians will get together to experience EU Research projects.

CHESS Augmented Reality at Digital Heritage 2013

The CHESS Augmented Reality activities at the Acropolis Museum were demonstrated, from October 28th to November 1st 2013, at the Digital Heritage expo in Marseille: http://www.digitalheritage2013.org/acropolis-chess/. The exhibition was visited by over 4500 people in 4 days!

CHESS AM AR Chiotissa 083 smAdditionally, on Friday, November 1st 2013, the paper "A digital look at physical museum exhibits - Designing personalized Stories with handheld Augmented Reality in Museums" was presented in the Museum & Technology Special Session.

The more general paper, "One object many stories: Introducing ICT in museums and collections through digital storytelling", which mentions CHESS was presented on Tuesday, October 29th 2013 in the Technology and storytelling Session.

Finally, Dr. Maria Roussou, a member of CHESS with the University of Athens, was awarded the prestigious Tartessos award for her contribution to the development of virtual archaeology in the world. The award ceremony was held during the closing of the Digital Heritage 2013 congress.

VAMCT 2013: Virtual Archaeology, Museums & Cultural Tourism Workshop

Amidst the breathtaking setting of the European Cultural Centre of Delphi in Greece, where the Virtual Archaeology: Museums & Cultural Tourism (VAMCT 2013) Workshop was held, Maria Roussou of the University of Athens delivered an invited keynote speech on the CHESS project. The Workshop was a three day event, held on September 25-28 2013, which attracted more than 60 scholars from all over the world.
